We all are guilty of at times eating so much that we feel bloated or lethargic and feel we need to lie down and recover. But if this happens many times and you do not regularly overeat perhaps you need to try a gluten free diet. Gluten is an amino acid found in wheat, barley, and rye. It is what makes bread gooey if you have made bread dough before you know this.
But it is also the part of bread that actually causes the body’s immune system to attack its own digestive system. Many people have this disorder and are not even aware of it. In fact one out of every 150 people in this country has a problem with gluten allergy. It is not easy to get past eating gluten. Wheat is found in most breads and pastries.
Even though gluten is very prevalent in our everyday foods, bread, cereal, pastries, you can learn to avoid these foods. You can eat around gluten if you try. For parents of autistic children it is a well worth attempt to have their children eat a gluten free diet. Recent studies show that gluten has an adverse affect on autistic children. Eliminating gluten from their diet have helped their condition.
Limiting gluten in their diet has helped these autistic children. You of course want to consult with your medical doctor and nutritionist to see if you truly have gluten sensitivity. If you do you can take steps to eating a healthy diet.
There are many products on the market to make your job of eating gluten free easier. Before companies started targeting the gluten free population, people had to prepare their own gluten free breads with products like soy flour.
Now you can find many gluten free foods on the super market shelves. There are gluten free pretzels made from potatoes. There are bread mixes gluten free you only have to add water to make. But if you are thinking about how hard it is to eat out at restaurant you are right.
However, there are now some restaurants that are offering gluten free meals on their menus. Like many people eating out at a restaurant you might have been blaming the restaurant for you bloated feeling. When really it was your gluten sensitivity causing the problem. The problem for many was that this condition is difficult to diagnose. And before the right diagnosis can be made you go through a lot of tests and a lot of pain.
Many people suffer from abdominal pain, bloating, and diarrhea before the right diagnosis is made. It is unfortunate that many misdiagnoses have to be made before the right one is found. But if you do think you might be allergic to gluten stop eating foods that contain gluten and monitor your condition. You can then go to your doctor and discuss your situation. If you do have sensitivity to gluten there are many products available to help you eat healthy and enjoy eating at the same time.

Celiac disease is a condition that is commonly under diagnosed; in addition, 9 out of 10 people have the conditions without even knowing it. If you have celiac disease will are going to be advised to change your diet to a gluten free diet. Because this condition is inherited, there is nothing you can do to prevent it but you can live with it with just a few adjustments in your eating habits.
The lining of the small intestine is injured by gluten for those people living with celiac disease. These people may experience weight loss, deficiencies with vitamins and minerals, bloating, among others. It is vital for a person living with celiac disease to watch the food intake. As soon as their diet changes their small intestine starts to repair itself.
It is not easy to remove gluten from a person’s diet. Many foods use grain during the preparation. Many people will eat gluten and not even realizing they are doing so. It is not easy to be able to tell if gluten is in the food just by its name. Nonetheless, keeping a strict, gluten free diet is essential if you want to improve your condition. Overall, you will want to see a registered dietician for some help and guidance when putting your new diet together.
When changing to a gluten free diet, you are consuming foods that do not contain any gluten including but not limited to wheat, rye and barley. Sometimes oats can be considered gluten because these oats can become contaminated during the manufacturing process. There are some clues however, that will tell you if grain is an ingredient in the food, which can be found on the label including stabilizer, starch, flavoring, hydrolyzed, plant protein, emulsifier.
One thing someone with celiac disease must be ready to change their eating habits. The gluten free diet needs to be consistent. While shopping, you can always look at the ingredients on the labels of the food. Many products will have the ingredients found on the label.
Today there are many supermarkets now stocking some gluten free foods because this condition is being diagnosed more often. There are also special health food stores that may have better selections on the types of food you are looking for.
It is better to pack a lunch on a daily basis, for work or school. On the other hand, you do not have to stay out of restaurants because of your condition; you will just have to watch what you choose on the menu. Keeping is simple is the best way to go. Remember, sauces and dressings contain ingredients that have gluten, so you may want to stay away from salads for example.
Do not worry; changing to a gluten free diet seems scarier than in really is. However, once you get the hand of it, that little change will not seem to matter as much as your body being healthier. Celiac disease can be dealt with; it just takes a few adjustments in your eating habits.

Allergies can sometimes be simple to control, but that does not mean that the patient has mild symptoms. There are many over the counter remedies that are known to help patients treat seasonal allergies, one of the most common types of the condition. Another allergy that is increasing in numbers is the gluten allergy. With proper tests, it is fairly easy to diagnose and the symptoms are sometimes easy to recognize.
Patients often have the allergies for a while before the patient and doctor realize the patient is having a reaction to gluten. Many of the symptoms are shared with other ailments, making it difficult to narrow down the suspects. The main sign of gluten allergies is frequent stomach problems such as upset stomach and constipation.
Every patient varies in symptoms when they develop an allergic reaction to gluten. Extreme fatigue is next on the list after stomach ailments. The patients that are allergic to gluten often run out of energy before they normally did. This is often a sign of other conditions and diseases so just because the patient is tired, does not mean they are having an allergic reaction.
Along with the stomach ailments comes weight lose. Bloating and constipation is also common indicators that someone may be having an allergic reaction to gluten. In order to verify this, a doctor will do allergy tests. Treatment will for the symptoms will begin after the tests have come back and the doctor has talked to the patient about a treatment plan.
When the doctor finds out what is causing the symptoms, the treatment will begin. In the cases of gluten allergies, a diet change will be directed by the doctor. Medication may also play a part in the patient’s daily treatment.
Some of the symptoms of gluten allergies are often the same signs of other health conditions. The doctor is the only one that can diagnose and treat the allergies; so many tests may be in order before the doctor can narrow down the cause of the patient’s symptoms.
Many people across the world have allergies and have to learn how to control them. There are few symptoms that point to a gluten allergy and if the gluten allergy symptoms are noticed, they should be tested.
Food allergies are quite common in children and in some cases adults too. An allergy is a negative reaction to any particular substance and food allergy refers to the adverse response that the body might have to a particular food. The most common food allergies in children are that of milk, peanuts and eggs and in adults it is fish, eggs, peanuts, shellfish and fish.
The reaction to food allergies might come in the form of nausea, vomiting, skin rashes, wheezing or scratchy throat and in very worst situations the food allergies might result in death where nothing else can be done.
There are a few allergies that are extremely common, and these are to dairy products, eggs, peanuts, tree nut, seafood, shellfish, wheat and soy. These are referred to as the “big 8″. The allergens in each of these foods (as with all foods) vary from country to country because of the differing environments that the food is grown in.
Skin prick testing is the most common method to confirm if there is a person has an allergy to a certain type of food. Blood tests are another common method that allergists use to confirm the whether or not a given patient has an allergy to a particular food that he or she has eaten.
When someone is having a serious allergic reaction the best drug to use is usually epinephrine applied using an auto-injector, this helps them to overcome the systemic reaction. However, as far as a permanent cure to allergies goes, there is no long term solution, the only way to avoid the reaction is to avoid the food that causes it. It is unfortunate, but that’s just the way it is. People who already suffer from a disease of some kind have been found to be more prone to developing these allergies.

5,300 years ago, an injured and starving man from Val Venosta, Italy, fled across an Alpine glacier to escape pursuers. But his enemies caught up with him and with a practiced arrow-shot penetrated his shoulder blade and subclavian artery. Before long, he was dead from blood loss. “Oetzi the Iceman” was found mummified in’91. On his person were pouches containing mushroom remedies, the oldest known proof in existence of medicinal mushrooms usage.
One of the mushrooms was Birch polypore – Piptoporus betulinus – which it is believed he used as a remedy against intestinal parasites. Eggs of the whipworm parasite (Trichuris trichiura) were found in his intestines. The other mushroom in the possession of Oetzi was Tinder fungus – Fomes fomentarius – which has been traditionally used in Europe to cauterize wounds and stop bleeding.
Both of these are polypores, so named because they have pores instead of gills underneath. No species of polypore is known to be poisonous. They usually grow on trees, dead or alive.
Polypores are usually considered inedible due to the fact that they are hard and wood-like. But for ancient peoples all across the globe – from China and India to Europe and the Americas – polypore teas and poultices have none-the-less been indispensible allies to human health at least for as long as written and oral traditions can recount.
Oral traditions of Native Americans bear tale of many types of polypores being used to help against the diseases brought by the Europeans, including Birch polypore but also Reishi (Ganoderma resinaceum), Turkey Tail (Trametes versicolor), Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) and the now almost vanished species Agarikon (Fomitopsis officinalis).
As it so happens, Agarikon is also the oldest mushroom referenced in European medical literature. It was listed by Dioscorides in the Materia Medica of 65 B.C. as a treatment for tuberculosis. In confirmation of this, Polish researcher K. Grzywnowics published an article in 2001 titled Medicinal mushrooms in Polish Folk Medicine where he states that Agarikon tea was historically used in his country as a remedy for lung conditions, as well as rheumatoid arthritis, open bleeding and infected wounds.
So far, we’ve only covered the history of medicinal mushrooms in Europe and America and have barely even touch upon their use in Asia, where their use has been even more exhaustive. At least three Asian species must be included in any article on the history of mushrooms.
First out is Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum), sometimes nicknamed the “Mushroom of Immortality” due to its wide range of healing properties. Reishi was mentioned in Shen Nong’s Herbal Classic from around 2,000 years ago. Many ancient Oriental temples and wood-carvings include images of this highly revered “cure-all” fungus.
Next is Cordyceps, a minute fungus from the Tibetan plateau, parasitising on silk caterpillars. Cordyceps sinensis was first mentioned as a medicinal mushroom in The Classic Herbal of the Divine Plowman from 200 A.D. It is popular with athletes to improve physical stamina. Historically, it’s been used as an aphrodiciac.
Finally there is Shiitake, the number one gourmet mushroom of the Orient. Shiitake has been cultured in China for approximately 1,000 years as a food. What is less known is that it is also one of the most researched medicinal mushrooms in the world. A polysaccharide extracted from Shiitake is approved in Japan as an anti-cancer drug. Other qualities hinted at by research include antibiotic and immune enhancer.
Scientific research on medicinal mushrooms began in Japan in the late’60’s. A ground-breaking study by Dr. Ikekawa found that mushroom growers and their families had lower cancer rates then the communities in which they lived. Today, medicinal research into mushrooms has expanded exponentially around the world and is still increasing. Medicinal mushrooms are still making history.
Note: The article is informational only. The FDA has not approved mushrooms for medicinal use. Always consult a licensed medical practitioner before using any product to treat an illness.

Medicinal mushrooms, hugely popular for thousands of years in the Orient, are coming in vogue today also in the West. On the coattails of their increasing popularity follow issues of quality and ethical representation between competing brands.
All species of medicinal mushrooms appear haunted by this issue. Particularly so, it seems, is red reishi (Ganoderma lucidum), the oldest medicinal mushroom in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Please note, however, that the information in this article applies generally to all medicinal mushroom species.
The first and perhaps obvious caution is to stay away from cheap mass-produced brands of medicinal mushrooms that may only contain dried and pulverized mushrooms, in which case the medicinal compounds are still inaccessible behind the mushrooms’ cell walls.
But even among the truly effective therapeutic brands, which are plentiful, there are important differences. Each seems to claim superiority over other brands, not surprisingly, because why else would anyone buy them? This article aims to clarify the confusion of conflicting and sometimes misleading information that is out there.
There are primarily three ways to extract the medicinal compounds from red reishi. Each method pulls out different compounds, all of which have been proven by scientific research to be therapeutically important.
1. Hot Water Extraction (polysaccharides, etc.)
2. Alcohol Extraction (triterpenoids, sterols)
3. Fermenting (arabinoxylanes, etc.)
The most important hot water extracted compounds are the polysaccharides. Studies have shown them to possess strong anti-tumor properties, help boost immune system and be powerful antioxidants. [1]
Through alcohol extraction, we get triterpenoids, a large group of lipids with many sub-groups. Research shows triterpenoids help regulate clotting, blood pressure and cholesterol. More importantly, they are the anti-inflammatory compounds that are the reason why reishi often gets recommended for arthritis, asthma and allergies. [1]
Less researched are the “secondary metabolites” that come from fermenting reishi. “Secondary” because they result when the original medicinal compounds get broken down by bacteria. These new compounds have been shown to possess therapeutic properties that are unique, including immune enhancement, anti-tumor and blood-sugar regulation. [2]
Since this article is not intended to elevate any one brand over another, no brand names will be mentioned. Nevertheless, the author does know of two highly reputed brands (American and Japanese) that claim only hot water extracted red reishi is of any value and that alcohol extracts are useless.
Naturally, the reason they say so is because they want to sell their own brand. However, those statements are scientifically untrue. Hot water and alcohol extractions both contain critical compounds.
When looking for the best reishi extract, find one that uses at least the first two extraction methods in combination: Hot Water and Alcohol Extraction. Even better may be a brand that includes all three methods listed.
As a last point, when you look for the best reishi extract, one thing to look at is the form it comes in. For example, any reishi extract that fully dissolves in a water-based liquid such as coffee probably only contains hot water extracted reishi. So while reishi/ganoderma coffee certainly makes for a superbly delicious and healthy cup loaded with polysaccharides, it won’t include the important anti-inflammatory triterpenoids.
Alcohol tinctures, on the other hand, are well worth considering because they may be a blend of water and alcohol extracts. The way to tell is if the tincture is cloudy. When water-soluble polysaccharides get mixed with alcohol, they fall out of solution. Cloudiness in an alcohol tincture indicates high polysaccharide content. Just shake before taking. Tablets and capsules can contain hot water extract, alcohol extract or both. You need to find out from the manufacturer.

What if you could get rid of the painful and uncomfortable feeling of nausea that comes with irritable bowel syndrome? How differently would you live from day to day knowing that you never have to deal with the IBS again? This article will reveal some simple strategies that will make living ibs free a reality.
The truth is finding the exact cause of nausea in IBS sufferers can be a very difficult task because each person seems to have his or her own individual triggers. The result is that what triggers the nausea in person A is not likely to be what triggers the symptom in person B.
It is therefore very important that if you suffer from irritable bowel syndrome that you know the foods and events trigger your symptoms. One of the best ways to achieve this is to keep a food and symptoms diary.
You simply note down everything you eat on a daily basis for about two to four weeks and also note what symptoms you get and when you get them.
But what is IBS? It is as a functional disorder of the digestive system. What this simply means is that the digestive system of the sufferer is not functioning normally as it should although there are no identifiable reasons to explain why.
So if you were to take a peek inside the digestive system of a sufferer it would look perfectly normal.
Apart from IBS nausea, other common symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome include bloating, flatulence, constipation or/and diarrhea, abdominal pain and spastic contractions of the colon.
We discussed earlier it was important for you to know what your triggers are because prescription drugs such as anticholinergics only mask the symptoms of the ailment, once you stop taking the drugs, the symptoms return and usually with a vengeance.
The second thing you can do to eliminate your IBS Nausea is to use pure peppermint oil. Peppermint is known to have anti-spasmodic action and analgesic (pain-killing) properties to help soothe your digestive tract, ease any tightness relieve abdominal pain, and stop you from feeling nauseous.
