It seems like asthma is becoming ever more widespread nowadays. You’ve very likely heard of it. But if you’ve never experienced an asthma attack, you probably are unaware of what goes on during one. There are several typical signs of an asthma attack. These include coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath. It’s a serious disorder, and can result in death if left untreated. If you’ve recently been diagnosed with the condition, here are some facts you should know.

What triggers an asthma attack? It can vary according to the individual. Some of the most typical triggers are allergens such as dust, pollution, pollen, cigarette smoke and perfume. As a matter of fact, many attacks are actually caused by allergy induced asthma. Things like a change in the atmospheric pressure, cold air, exercise or a common cold virus can also trigger asthma symptoms.

The site of an asthma attack is the airways leading to the lungs. The opening and closing of your airways are controlled by a specific muscle. It’s completely reflexive, so you can’t influence it voluntarily. But allergens or the other factors that were identified above could cause it to tighten. When you have an asthma condition, the muscle reacts disproportionately to the the triggers, thus producing an attack.

If the muscle tightens up, the air passage becomes constricted. It also gets blocked with mucus and the lining becomes swollen and inflamed. Generally, mucus in the airways is perfectly natural because it assists in the movement of air to the lungs. However, during an asthma attack, mucus production increases considerably, and it blocks the airways.

This sticky mucus makes it very difficult to breathe. The attack won’t stop until the mucus is cleared away. Which means it’s vital that you control your symptoms without delay with medication that your doctor has prescribed.

Often an attack will last only a few minutes. A serious attack, however, can continue for hours or days. There will be intervals during which you won’t be subjected to any symptoms, but they will soon reappear if you don’t use your medication properly.

If you believe you may have asthma, it’s important that you visit your physician at once. Tests will be run in order to make an accurate diagnosis. They will also try to discover the source of your attacks. When you’ve established the factors that trigger your attacks, it’s crucial that you do your best to avoid them. You’ll need to work closely with your physician and follow the prescribed course of treatment if you want to prevent future attacks. The attacks can be fatal, so don’t ignore your symptoms.

Admittedly, asthma is a difficult disease to identify early. It resembles so many other respiratory infections that it becomes difficult to tell them apart. That is why you should not be trying it on your own; bring your doctor into the picture.

With the number of people that suffer from asthma in the United States, one would wonder if there was any reason for anybody to be able to live without it. It’s like a losing battle; one rife with despair. I wish only more grease to the elbows of researchers seeking to end it.

There are a lot of Americans living with asthma – more than you’d care to admit. The funny thing is that the disease does not limit many lives in any significant way. And that is the lesson I need you to catch; your life is not over because you’ve got asthma.

When you have asthma, you want to pay attention to everything that the doctor orders. That could very easily be what saves your life from complications of the disease, or from attacks that attack so incessantly and without warning. Disregarding an instruction could very well be the end of you, so you need to be advised.

Seeing as you are not the asthma pro, you might want to take a chill pill on your suggestions and suppositions. It is tough enough doing their job; you don’t want to make things harder for your specialist than they totally need to be.

I write a good deal about health and fitness and I have a lot of published articles about different topics in health and wellness. My current articles are about weight loss and diet and they can be seen at: Fat Loss 4 Idiots Review Also be sure you check out my web sites on phen375 Review and UniqueHoodia Review

Unfortunately, asthma is seen as a life long chronic illness; however, you can lessen the extent and severity of asthma attacks you have with natural asthma remedies. This does not mean that you ought to discard your inhaler or puffer if you have or use one, but these remedies can reduce your dependency upon these devices by a substantial amount.

A short description of asthma is that it is the contraction of your bronchial airways. As you suffer an asthma attack, your airways constrict leaving you suddenly short of breath, making you cough and then gasp for air. Sometimes asthma may be triggered by allergies; in other cases the causes are considerably more obvious.

Some natural asthma treatments aid in the prevention of attacks. Here are few of the more common ones:

1. Avoid smoke or smoke filled rooms. In the event you smoke, it is best to quit because it can irritate your bronchial passages and bring on severe asthma attacks;

2. Use antacids before going to bed. Sometimes asthma is triggered by heartburn or acid reflux and an antacid can prevent this.

3. Be careful of what you eat, because eating the wrong foods can trigger asthma attacks. A few of the foods which could cause these attacks include milk, eggs, nuts and seafood.

4. Lower your salt consumption whenever possible.

5. Be careful about your exposure to and be aware of food additives. Certain food additives can trigger asthma attacks.

6. Make sure that you use your inhaler correctly, because utilizing it incorrectly will have no effect on your asthma attack. Should you use an inhaler, get your friendly pharmacist to show you the proper way to use this device to obtain the best relief.

Apart from these important tips, there are many more natural asthma remedies that work well in reducing the quantity of asthma attacks that you suffer.

Are you one of the growing number of people who suffer from an allergy? If you are then you have probably already tried different ways to manage your allergy, but have you ever thought of using an anti-allergy air purifier? They are not that expensive, but the real question is, whether anti-allergy air purifiers work or not.

However, the answer to this question is not quite so easy. In short and in general, yes, anti-allergy air purifiers do work, but there are a few catches. Not all particles that cause allergies are easy to trap and not all anti-allergy air purifiers are as good as each other. Furthermore, it takes different types of air purifiers to eliminate different allergens. You are unlikely to find one portable anti-allergy air purifier that will trap all allergens.

In short, anti-allergy air purifiers work by drawing in air from its surroundings and blowing it back out through a filter. Two things are important here: the volume of air that the pump can handle in an hour and the quality of the filter.

Therefore, it is important to buy a model with a high through-put and a high-quality filter and that filter has to be kept in shape by either cleaning or renewing it regularly.

However, not all anti-allergy air purifiers are intended to do the same job. Most anti-allergy air purifiers will trap dust, skin detritus, dust mites and dirt. However, second-hand tobacco smoke is better trapped by liquid anti-allergy air purifiers and bacteria is killed only with a system which passes the air through ultraviolet light. Even so, this UV light must be at least 24,000 microwatts UVGI, or else it is practically useless.

Airborne mold and mildew can be got rid of with anti-allergy air purifiers that produce ozone, although you should really call a contractor in to find and cure the cause of the mold or mildew.

Once you have identified what you are allergic to and discovered what type of anti-allergy air purification system will eliminate that allergen, you have to decide whether you want a portable system or a whole house air purification system. Portable units are all right for one room, a caravan or a trailer or even a tent, but as soon as someone opens the door, you lose a lot of the air that you have scrubbed.

If you live in a house or apartment with several rooms, then the best choice is one of the many whole house anti-allergy air purifiers. The cheapest method of achieving this is to insert an anti-allergy air purifying unit into your existing central heating and or central cooling system.

This reduces costs by making use of your existing ducting and existing blower. This allows more money to be spent on the filtration system and so, for between $300 and $1,000, you could clear your whole house of nearly all the common allergens.

These latter kinds of anti-allergy air purifiers really do work and are the most effective defense against allergies on the market.

For decades now doctors have been telling us that we should stay out of the sun. And if we (gasp) had to spend time outside, we should cover ourselves in the highest SPF sunscreen possible.

Well, it seems that they may be realizing now that they were wrong!

It seems that a recent study reported in the Journal of Allergy & Clinical Immunology found that “asthmatic children with relatively low vitamin D levels in their blood may have a greater risk of suffering severe asthma attacks than those with higher levels of the vitamin.” (source)

While some fatty fish, such as salmon, provide vitamin D naturally, the primary natural source of vitamin D in your body is sunlight. That’s right, the same sun that the doctors warned you to stay away from.

What’s worse is that it would almost seem that this must have been known before. At least there must have been knowledge that keeping people out of the sun would cause vitamin D deficiency, otherwise why would so many foods, like milk, orange juice and breakfast cereals, be fortified with it?

It isn’t just asthma, either. A friend of mine was diagnosed with hypertension over a year ago, and the doctor said was caused by vitamin D deficiency. The doctor actually told her to take supplements and to go out in the sun more.

And the list goes on. According to that same article, “Vitamin D may be best known for its role in healthy bone development and maintenance, but it is also needed for normal nerve, muscle and immune system function. Some studies have linked low vitamin D levels to a higher risk of type 1 or “insulin-dependent” diabetes in children and, in adults, heart disease and certain cancers.” (source)

I think the lesson here is balance. Don’t stay out of the sun. Don’t spend too much time in the sun either, because that has been linked to skin cancer. Eat as balanced a diet as you can, and stay active. You’ll be amazed at how much easier and better life is when you find the balance.

Asthma affects the lungs and makes breathing difficult or impossible. Approximately 22 million Americans are living with this. The condition has a serious impact on people’s lives and can be fatal. Attacks may be triggered by any number of things but treatment options are available. Two main forms of asthma exist.

Understanding what goes wrong is important. Our lungs supply our bodies with the oxygen we all need to survive. In normally functioning lungs, air is inhaled, the oxygen is removed and the air is exhaled. In someone with pulmonary issues, the lungs become narrow and breathing is impaired. The lungs constrict and inflammation causes swelling. This is referred to as an asthma attack.

Allergies occur when the body’s immune system overreacts to a substance the individual has contact with. This can lead to breathing problems. Exercise is also a cause of attacks in some people. With occupational triggers, workers inhale substances in the workplace that lead to attacks. Finally, when someone experiences a frequent, non-productive cough, he may have cough variant asthma.

It’s more difficult to determine whether a patient has the cough variant of the condition. This is because, in this form, the patient often has normal lung function. Doctors usually use the same medications to treat cough variant that are used to treat the more common constriction type.

As with any medical condition, patients need to consult with their physician for diagnosis and treatment. This is important whether the patient has the more common form or the cough variant.

Doctors determine the course of treatment by considering what triggers the attacks and how bad the symptoms are. One of the approaches to dealing with occupational or allergic triggers is to avoid the specific substances that lead to symptoms. Patients have the option to have an allergy test to see what they’re allergic to. Many patients also have good results when the allergies are treated.

There are a variety of medications that doctors can prescribe for their patients. There are medicines that reduce the frequency of symptoms and attacks. These are taken every day. Also, rescue inhalers are used when an attack occurs to provide immediate relief. Physicians will often prescribe both in order to manage symptoms. However, doctors sometimes need to try different medications and treatments to help each patient achieve optimal results.

Asthma has serious consequences for the people living with it. It’s a medical condition that requires a doctor’s care. Physicians find the treatments that work best for each patient. This means that patients can manage their symptoms and live their lives to the fullest, even with asthma.

In an asthmatic person, the first stage is the same as in the healthy person. In the second stage however, the airway instead of relaxing to expel, suddenly constricts further provoking acute breathlessness and respiratory distress. An asthma remedy is one thing; asthma prevention is another.
