Very often, when you have people living in your home with allergies there are several restrictions that can arise when it comes to home decor. You will have to take extra care about the materials you use when you decorating your home. However, just because allergies exist in the home there is no reason for it to look barren and cold. You can still decorate your home to be attractive and inviting. Here are some tips that you can use when decorating an allergy free home:

1. First you should get rid of that wall to wall carpet. With carpet it will catch that dust that is floating around and the dander will also settle in the carpet. Switch to wood flooring and you will notice that a person who has allergies in your home you will notice that they will not be near as bad. Since carpet can collect so much dust and dander it’s important to get this out of your home.

2. When it is possible use your ceiling fans. Almost every home has ceiling fans in it. This helps to add additional light in your room and to cool the air. But if your home does not have ceiling fans you can install one yourself or have someone do it for you. It doesn’t take a lot of money or time to do. It can even help you on your heating and cooling bills.

3. Use a Decorative Humidifier and Air Purifier- There are some decorative air humidifiers and purifiers on the market. These can do wonders when it comes to helping someone with allergies breathe easier. While you will not want these products to be the centerpiece of your home, you can put them in an area where they are inconspicuous. By getting one of the modern, attractive air purifiers, you can make them fit into a contemporary home. If you do not have contemporary decor, you can hide these products with a screen.

4. Use Area Rugs for Warmth- Area rugs can be cleaned easily if you get them made of natural products. Area rugs can keep the floors warm and, unlike wall to wall carpeting, can be kept allergen free with proper care. You can find area rugs in just about any type of material or color that you want. Area rugs can be the easiest way to add both style and warmth to a home that is being decorated with allergens in mind.

5. Blinds are a great addition to the windows instead of curtains. Curtains and drapes can trap the dust and can cause severe allergy reactions when the curtains are moved and dust is activated. Blinds can be wiped off and kept clean every week. You can buy allergen free blinds, wood flooring, tiles, and other materials used to decorate you home the way that you want it to look. Always have an air purifier running at all times.

Millions of people each year suffer on a daily basis from nights where they just can not sleep as they toss and turn from the affects of allergies that keep them constantly awake. This is so uncomfortable and quite stressful for many as they can never get sound sleep. This happens mostly from dust mites that live inside the fabric material. With hypoallergenic bedding you can put an end to the sleepless nights.

The dust mites that are found in our bedding are the cause of many problems like wheezing, sneezing, runny nose, breathing, coughing, watery eyes, stuffy nose and chest congestion.

The dust mites are very small organisms which are known to make their home in a warm moist environments like carpets, upholstered furniture, mattresses and bedding. When they leave secrete waist it will dry out and spread through the air and the excretion can cause many allergic reactions when people inhale them and if you are an allergic person then the reaction will be quick.

For people who have respiratory problems this is very harmful and for asthma sufferers it can be even worse. People who find it difficult to get any sleep as they toss and turn all night with nose and chest congestion probably have dust mites in their bedding. With the use of the hypoallergenic bedding you can eliminate this problem.

The bedding for this product is specially made to be resistant to allergies. It is designed of natural silk which will not support the dust mites because the fabric is weaved tightly. So if you are one who suffers from dust mites you will experience an improvement in your over all health. This can come from the use of this bedding and will provide a dust free environment for you.

If you are using the regular manufactured bedding products because of the chemicals they put into the material, you will be prone to experience headaches, skin irritations and breathing difficulties. The hypoallergenic bedding does not use chemicals and is only made of natural material.

If you use the regular bedding with the linens makes the situation worse as dust, waste, pet dander and dead skin cells become embedded in the loosely woven fabric. But if you use the hypoallergenic bedding you are assure of a more sound sleep.

You can truly benefit from using the hypoallergenic bedding as you will no longer suffer from any long nights of tossing and turning due to dust mites and any other allergenic symptoms. And also your general health will certainly be improved.

People who suffer from food allergies know how important it is to avoid the allergens that they are sensitive to. Allergic reactions can happen quickly, and they can be life-threatening. Allergens in food sometimes occur in products where one least expects to find them. The benefits of allergy free foods include knowing exactly what is in the foods you consume.

Approximately 2 percent of adults and between 4 and 8 percent of children have allergic reactions to one or more foods. In the last decade there seems to have been an increase in the numbers of younger people with allergies. Each year, around thirty thousand Americans have food allergy responses acute enough to go to an emergency room. All this points to the fact that it is critical to control your food intake with regard to the substance or substances that produce the allergy.

Allergic reactions to food usually occur within a few minutes to an hour of the food being ingested. Symptoms can be as mild as an itchy mouth or as severe as anaphylactic shock, which can be fatal if untreated. There is no cure for food allergies, though children often do outgrow them, as adults also do sometimes.

Approximately 90 percent of all food allergies are caused by eight foods. These are fish, shellfish, wheat, soy, egg, milk, tree nuts and peanuts. Obviously, one can fairly easily avoid some of them, such as shellfish or fish. Others, however, being included as ingredients in other products, are less obvious. Wheat, egg, milk and soy are used widely in many different products. Even foods such as chocolate candy and Asian condiments may include peanuts, a major allergen for many.

An important United States law was passed in 2004, known as FALCPA. This act required food companies to clearly state on their labels if the product includes any of the 8 major allergy-causing substances. However, the law did not require the manufacturers to include information regarding possible cross-contamination of foods processed by equipment used for several different types of foods, perhaps including known allergens.

Cross-contact statements are being including by some manufacturers on their labels voluntarily, but there is still the potential for allergic problems to be incurred when buying food items manufactured for the general population of consumers. It may take only a very small amount of an allergen to cause serious problems for someone sensitive to it. Foods processed specifically with the needs of the food allergy sufferer in mind will have far less probability of containing unwanted allergens.

Obviously one may, if in doubt about a particular food item, contact the manufacturing company about ingredients included, or the possibility of cross-contamination with allergens. There is, however, a much higher comfort level knowing that a company manufactures foods specifically for those with food allergies. Among the benefits of allergy free foods is the greater degree of safety one can reasonably expect from foods processed this way.

The majority of people in the West have a pet: a cat, a dog, a hamster, a rabbit or a parrot. They are good company and doctors believe that having a pet lowers stress and stress is the biggest killer in the West. Keeping a pet helps you live longer. It is a real shame then that some people develop allergies to their pets.

If you or someone in your immediate family has developed an allergy to a family pet, it can be a complicated problem to work out. Particularly if you have young children. Young children become close to pets very quickly, so the obvious answer to the problem – getting rid of it – is not always an alternative. If this is your quandary, help is at hand.

You see, the allergens – the particles that cause allergies – are almost always airborne. The allergens come from bits of dry skin, hairs, feathers and dry feces floating on the air and entering your nose while you are breathing. It is quite logical then that if you can eliminate these particles from the air that you breathe, you will reduce the severity of or even completely eradicate your allergy.

Therefore, you more severe hygiene routines could reduce your predicament. Bathe, comb or brush your pet more frequently and clean out their cages or baskets more often. This could work, but it most likely will not work completely. This is because these substances are being shed by the second, just as every human being sheds bits of skin every second as well. You have to prevent these substances becoming part of your inhalation of breath.

What you actually need is an air purifier. Almost all air purifiers will extract pets’ detritus from the air, but be informed that not all air purifiers are the same. Most of the good air purifiers are quite specialist devices. Some will eliminate smoke more efficiently, while others will trap airborne mold and mildew more successfully. Therefore, you have to check the capabilities of any air purifier you like before you purchase it.

Portable air purifiers can normally only deal with a small volume of air at a time, so they will only cleanse a small room. This is all right if you live in a bedsitter, a caravan or a trailer or are camping out in a tent. If, however, you live in a house or apartment, you should try to invest in a whole house air conditioner. As the term says, this will clean all the air in your whole house at the same time, which is far better than cleaning just one room.

The problem with less powerful, portable air conditioners is that as soon as someone opens the door, you are back to where you started, whereas a whole house air purifier means that you can walk around the house and go about your daily chores as normal.

Are you one of the growing number of people who suffer from an allergy? If you are then you have probably already tried different ways to manage your allergy, but have you ever thought of using an anti-allergy air purifier? They are not that expensive, but the real question is, whether anti-allergy air purifiers work or not.

However, the answer to this question is not quite so easy. In short and in general, yes, anti-allergy air purifiers do work, but there are a few catches. Not all particles that cause allergies are easy to trap and not all anti-allergy air purifiers are as good as each other. Furthermore, it takes different types of air purifiers to eliminate different allergens. You are unlikely to find one portable anti-allergy air purifier that will trap all allergens.

In short, anti-allergy air purifiers work by drawing in air from its surroundings and blowing it back out through a filter. Two things are important here: the volume of air that the pump can handle in an hour and the quality of the filter.

Therefore, it is important to buy a model with a high through-put and a high-quality filter and that filter has to be kept in shape by either cleaning or renewing it regularly.

However, not all anti-allergy air purifiers are intended to do the same job. Most anti-allergy air purifiers will trap dust, skin detritus, dust mites and dirt. However, second-hand tobacco smoke is better trapped by liquid anti-allergy air purifiers and bacteria is killed only with a system which passes the air through ultraviolet light. Even so, this UV light must be at least 24,000 microwatts UVGI, or else it is practically useless.

Airborne mold and mildew can be got rid of with anti-allergy air purifiers that produce ozone, although you should really call a contractor in to find and cure the cause of the mold or mildew.

Once you have identified what you are allergic to and discovered what type of anti-allergy air purification system will eliminate that allergen, you have to decide whether you want a portable system or a whole house air purification system. Portable units are all right for one room, a caravan or a trailer or even a tent, but as soon as someone opens the door, you lose a lot of the air that you have scrubbed.

If you live in a house or apartment with several rooms, then the best choice is one of the many whole house anti-allergy air purifiers. The cheapest method of achieving this is to insert an anti-allergy air purifying unit into your existing central heating and or central cooling system.

This reduces costs by making use of your existing ducting and existing blower. This allows more money to be spent on the filtration system and so, for between $300 and $1,000, you could clear your whole house of nearly all the common allergens.

These latter kinds of anti-allergy air purifiers really do work and are the most effective defense against allergies on the market.

Owen Jones, the author of this piece, writes on many topics, but is currently involved with split air conditioning systems.

Can foods cause eczema? Many people think eating certain foods causes eczema, however the truth is foods do not CAUSE eczema, but they do cause eczema symptoms and flare-ups.

Foods That Cause Eczema Flare-ups

There are a lot of foods that can causes allergies. The most common ones are: casein (milk/dairy), gluten, wheat, seafood, nuts, eggs, soy, and sometimes fish. Also, certain chemical food additives, preservatives and even colorings can cause reactions in some people. And, the worst part is it’s hard to figure out exactly which food causes the flare-up because sometime symptoms don’t manifests until 24 to 48 hours later.

Treating Eczema

Since the types of foods that cause eczema flare-ups will vary from person to person, it is best to try an elimination diet listed below. This is a diet where you start with the most common foods that cause allergies and eliminate it for a week or two. See the example below……

Start with your favorite food first – Especially if it falls within the common food trigger list and try avoiding it for one week. Then re-introduce it again and see how your skin reacts. Common foods and preservatives to avoid are: milk/dairy/eggs, peanuts, wheat, and soy. Also, consider many additives found in common foods like soups.

Over The Counter Eczema Treatment

Following a diet is hard, we all know that. And while you should try to reduce the offending allergic foods that cause eczema flare ups, you should also consider applying a botanical, natural topical cream. One that can heal the skin while reduce annoying symptoms like burning and itching. But, be careful which product you use.

Food allergies and children is an interesting field of study in science today because there is so much left to learn. For example, doctors know that the presence of the immunoglobulin E antibody in the blood indicates an allergy. Yet, they do not know what specific molecules are in specific foods that trigger the body’s immune system to attack a food as if it’s a foreign invader. It’s still very much a mystery why some kids break out in eczema, others have a strange tingling sensation in the mouth, and others still may suffer a life-threatening emergency. Researchers hope to learn why some food allergy symptoms clear up by age 10, while other allergies may persist for a person’s entire life.

Food allergies and children have been making headlines recently. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control reported that food allergies are on the rise, with around 3 million children suffering with a shellfish, milk, egg, wheat or peanut allergy. This is an 18% increase since 1997, the center reports. As a parent you may feel alarmed and wonder what you can do to prevent this fate from befalling your precious baby. While there is little evidence, aside from old wives’ tales that allergies can be prevented, researchers are finding better ways to identify allergens and possibly treat them. In this article, you will read about the latest kids food allergy research.

“Children Can Complete Treatment For Peanut Allergies And Achieve Long-Term Tolerance, Studies Suggest,” reads a Science Daily headline. Duke University Medical Center doctors have been studying food allergies in children for a long time. At the beginning of the monitored clinical tests, participants with this type of nut allergy couldn’t even tolerate one sixth of a peanut, yet within six months they were eating 13 to 15 peanuts before a reaction occurred. Nine of the thirty-three children in the study have been on maintenance therapy for over 2.5 years; of these children, 4 can now eat peanuts freely. “It appears these children have lost their allergies,” explains Wesley Burks, MD. “This gives other parents and children hope that we’ll soon have a safe, effective treatment that will halt allergies to certain foods.”

“Possible Link Between Obesity and Childhood Allergies,” finds a study funded by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. This study looked at the link between food allergies and children who were obese (in the 95th percentile of the normal body mass index for their age/height). Researchers found that the rate of having a food allergy was 59% higher for obese children. The NIEHS report added that it’s especially important to combat epidemics like obesity and food allergies in children, which have been on the rise over the past few decades.

The difficult part about dealing with food allergies and children is sometimes explaining to the child why he or she cannot eat something that may be so tasty. A number of parents note that their children show positive results for having peanut allergies, so they wish to shelter them from this potentially toxic food. Doug Speight of the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University reports that his work has shown 100% inactivation of peanut allergens in whole-roasted kernels and the processed peanuts showed no reaction in human serum tests from the extremely allergic. “We are extremely pleased that we were able to find such a simple solution to a vexing problem that has enormous economic and public health ramifications, both for peanut sensitive individuals, and the food industry as a whole,” reports Ahmedna, whose product is currently being developed.

Many people think of allergies as being an affliction which only affects people when they are outdoors during the early summer months. While dust can make people sniffly and itchy when they are outside, many unseen allergens can actually be found in the beds and carpeting inside our homes every day. It feels like each allergy season is worst than the previous one and whether you are allergic to dust or pollen, it’s not fun being itchy and sneezey all the time. Here are a few things you can do around your home to help reduce the allergens around you:

Replace air filters in your house: Your home probably has many air filters that you don’t always remember to change. Most homes with central air will have a whole house filter that should be replaced every two to four months. A old air filter can block air flow and actually start to blow out pollen and other allergens if it is not changed regularly. Most air filters are inexpensive and easy to change out if you remember to do so. Using a plug-in air purifier is helpful only if you change the filter regularly. A quick filter replacement can really pay for itself by lowering your electric bill.

Install hardwood floors: Smooth flooring like hardwood, laminate, stone or even vinyl are all better choices than rugs for people who suffer from allergies. Full room carpeting is the worst kind of flooring you can have in a home you have allergies because it traps so many pollen particles. If you suffer from allergies, then you might want to remove your rugs. Most allergy doctors recommend flooring that is easy to vacuum and does not trap dust, animal dander and other allergens.

Clean often: Some people with severe allergies actually use a home cleaning service in addition to their own cleaning. The simplest way to keep your house pollen-free is to clean the floors regularly. A good house cleaning once every month can make a big difference in the air cleanliness in your home. If you use a vacuum you’ll also want to clean the filters in it often as well.

You don’t have to be miserable in your own house throughout the long allergy season. With a little work your home can be a refuge from the powdery pollen of the outdoors and the itchy eye-inducing dust of indoors. Dedicating just ten minutes a day to cleaning your home may make such a difference that you might even be able to throw away those allergy drugs you’ve come to rely on!

Almost every person in the world is affected by some sort of allergy. Different substances have different effects on people. Some can cause only minor symptoms, other allergies can be life-threatening. For those who take a great deal of medication and worry about an allergy medication interfering, there are plenty of ways to find a good natural allergy cure.

The best natural way to help allergies is to prevent them from happening in the first place. The first step to take is to have yourself properly tested by a doctor. Testing has gotten far more accurate in recent years and can pin-point the specific elements that cause the reactions. This is great because it can allow individuals to come into contact with things they previous thought they were allergic to. For example, you could think you were allergic to a type of food, when you are actually only allergic to one small component of the food.

The better the diagnosis, the more able you are to avoid what really makes you sick. The more knowledge you have, the less of a chance you will need medication. Of course, this depends on your personal reaction to the allergen.

One very old but under-used way to decrease the symptoms of allergies is to build up an immunity. This is something to be worked out with your doctor, but it is a natural cure. Just as some poisons can be used as cures if they are in the correct small dosage, so can the allergen cure you of your allergies. It is a matter of one’s tolerance.

It can either be in the form of a vaccination or in the form of just encountering the allergy-causing element in controlled rations. The doctor will help you figure out a schedule in order introduce the allergen into your system in a very small dose. After short while, your body will get used to that amount and may not react. Then the dosage will be increased.

The amount is then increased slightly. Your body is allowed to get used to that amount. It is then increased again. Eventually you will be taking in large amounts of an allergen–amounts that once would have given you a severe reaction.

There are other ways you can cure your allergies in natural ways. These methods are usually in the form of vitamins and herbal supplements. They improve your immune system and could possibly undo the effects of allergens before you notice any symptoms. The great thing about vitamin supplements is that they usually do not require a prescription and are fairly inexpensive.

Some other remedies can be very useful, though they are controversial. These include acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine. Naturopathy or homeopathy and physical or psychological therapy have also been known to have positive effect.

When it comes to the treatment of seasonal allergies, the first step you should take is to try and avoid or limit your exposure to the allergens as much as possible by remaining indoors with windows and doors shut while using air conditioning or an air purifier.

Mild to moderate allergy symptoms can be treated with over the counter medications which include antihistamines and decongestants in the form of nasal sprays, eye drops, liquids, and pills.

In frequent or severe cases of hay fever, stronger prescription medications are also available which may include immunotherapy in the form of allergy shots.
