There are more then ten million Americans who have an allergy to pollen alone, this is about one in every five people in the United States. Suffers of allergies have a disorder of their immune system and that is what causes the symptoms. There are many people that are super sensitive to dust, pollen, nuts, and bees these are allergies that could be life threatening if it turn into an anaphylactic reaction and not treated right away.

There are less allergens that are found in the air of hotter dryer climates, and in humid and cooler climates there are considerably more allergens. In the spring and early summer is another time that there are a lot of allergens in the air this is because the plants and the trees are budding and this helps out the pollen.

Antihistamines, decongestants, and also nasal spray are medical treatments that help ward off some of the uncomfortableness of allergies. But any expert in the allergy field will say that the best way to treat the allergy is to stay away form it. Inside of your home you should look into using an air cleaner that has a HEPA filter.

HEPA filters eliminate almost all dust, and pollen from the air. Anybody who is allergic to smoke an activated carbon filter works great. Ask anybody you know with an allergy how many different symptoms that they have, they will have a long list. There are some new products that are now available to help with the allergy problem.

More and more people in the United States are being tested for allergies and the out come reveals that more then fifty five percent are allergic to at least one allergen. So with this said if you are a suffer to seem that you will at least be able to find somebody that is ready to talk about the problem you both suffer from.

Unless you are blessed with living in a rather pristine environment you know that a lot of the time you are breathing air that is not so healthy. In fact a lot of the time you breath air that has a bunch of stuff in it. This dust in the air has some rather predictable effects: it irritates the nose and it causes swellling of the nasal passages.

There is a predictable sequence that happens to the head once the nose starts swelling up. First it’s harder to breath through the nose. Then it starts to become easier to breath through the mouth. Finally the person is breathing through the mouth all of the time and then the mouth gets very dry. No fun.

So what is the best solution? Actually it’s rather simple: rinse out the “stuff” that’s in the nose and help the lining of the nose return to normal. The dilemma is this– what do you use to rinse out the nose? Plain water? Medicated sprays? Salt water spray? And if you’re going to use a salt water solution, what kind should you use? Many experts believe that you should use a solution that is not stronger than the salt concentration in your blood stream. Others believe that a stronger salt solution is more effective and the question is not firmly answered. I happen to believe that the stronger solution is more effective in not only irrigating out the secretions but also in decreasing the swelling that is caused by the stuff that’s inhaled into the nose.

I don’t want to make it sound like an emergency to get the junk and dust irrigated out of the nose. The body does have some self cleaning mechanisms after all. However if you’re getting exposed to this unclean air on a regular basis then the body’s systems just won’t work to clean out the junk that is stuck on the surface of the nose.

So it is very important that you have a strategy to get the “stuff” out of the nose if you want to have a healthy nose. If you don’t have a good strategy, I suggest using a home made solution because it not only works well, you have the added benefit of having a solution that doesn’t have preservatives in it.

So why is this important? What difference does it make to use preservatives or not in a nasal saline solution or spray? The biggest reason is that the preservatives are not inert. They actually cause damage and more swelling to the nasal lining! So have a strategy to clean your nasal passages. I suggest making the solution at home to avoid the preservatives. Now that’s a solution!

At first glance it may not be apparent why there would be a connection between a nasal saline solution and asthma. Here is the connection: asthma is aggravated by chronic sinus infections. Sometimes asthma is actually caused by a chronic sinus infection. How does this happen? Well actually we don’t know why this connection exists. But it does. What we do know is that in somebody who has a tendency toward asthma they will have an aggravation of the symptoms of asthma with any type of sinus infection, acute or chronic.

At this point I want to speak a little about the different kinds of sinus infections. The reason for this is because there is actually quite a bit of confusion and I want to describe the different terms. An “acute” infection is one that starts fairly suddenly often during the course of a viral URI. Usually the person is obviously ill, sometimes in pain.

The next category is a “sub-acute” infection. This tends to happen if an acute infection does not heal. This person is starting to get tired of symptoms that are “hanging on”. There is often a lot of coughing both day and night.

A chronic sinus infection is one that has been going on for quite a while. In fact the person with it will often have forgotten their acute infection and assumed they had gotten better. But they have this nagging cough and they have nasal congestion that is not too bad– in fact these folks often think they are dealing with chronic allergies.

So how does a nasal saline solution have anything to do with these various sinus infections? Well first of all the use of a good nasal saline solution will help decrease the symptoms in all three of these types of sinus infections. This is no small thing: being able to decrease symptoms that are bothering a person day and night is a fantastic blessing. The big thing though is that if used correctly and aggressively the nasal saline solution or spray can help keep the acute sinus infection from progressing to a chronic sinus infection.

The common element of the nasal saline is that it is helping to irrigate out secretions that are blocking the sinus openings. It’s also helping to decrease swelling which gives a chance for the sinuses to open up and drain. This all increases the odds that the subacute infection won’t progress to a chronic infection. That means that it is much less likely that asthma will develop. So aggressive use of a good nasal saline solution, particularly without preservatives, can help prevent asthma from developing from a sinus infection.

How do you know if you are hypersensitive to the pets in your home? There are a multitude of different causes and sometimes, it’s hard to discern which allergen might be the culprit to your allergies. It might take quite a bit of trial and error to find out, but here are several things to look out for.

Normally for pet allergy sufferers, they start sneezing badly once they’re nearby any cats or dogs, or when exposed to pet hairs left around the house – this is the first sign. Other common symptoms to look out for are also blocked noses or runny ones, not too much different from a cold really. It is easy to tell the difference between the two though as once you get away from the allergen, the symptoms will subside just as quickly as it came.

Just like people who are hyper-sensitive to pollen or dust mites, itchy or red eyes can also be attributed to allergies caused by pets. You might also experience tearing of the eyes as well and they can come about if you rub your eyes after touching a dog or a cat. To be more accurate, the pet hairs are not the culprit, but the pet dander.

What exactly is dander? The majority of animals constantly shed skin, just as we do and they’re microscopic in size. The allergic reactions arise when we inhale these tiny particles of animal skin.

If one of your family members owns a dog, you might want to ask him or her to retrain the dog and not allow it to climb on the household furniture. Also, make sure you clean the house frequently as well as steam clean the carpets on a regular basis to reduce the severity of allergic reactions.

Does this mean that allergy sufferers cannot own a dog or a cat? No, in fact, they can. If you decide that you really want to have a pet at home, you will need to select specific breeds of dogs or cats that are hypoallergenic – yes there is really such a thing. The Maltese and Australian Terrier are just 2 examples of hypoallergenic dogs.

If you already have a pet and you really don’t want to give it away, consider installing an air cleaner in your home to reduce airborne contaminants such as pet dander.

There are several types of purifiers in the market and you might find small portable air cleaners for your room, and larger units for the entire house.

And if you are out there to get a remedy for your allergy symptoms and to cleanse the air throughout your home, here is additional advice for whole house air purifiers together with other excellent manufacturers of dust air purifiers.

Are you an aquarium hobbyist, or own a water purification system? If not, chances are you have no idea what activated carbon is, or what it could possibly do in HEPA Air Purifiers. Even if the concept itself isn’t totally foreign, you probably still don’t know exactly what it does.

How Activated Carbon Is Used In HEPA Air Purifiers

Choosing HEPA air purifiers is often the first time most people encounter activated carbon. They begin their search because of allergies or asthma, but they have no real idea how these machines work. As they look deeper, they’ll start to learn that odors and chemicals are what’s actually causing the vast majority of the issues they’re trying to remedy. Most quality HEPA air purifiers are designed to eliminate allergens as well as odors and chemicals in the air. This is where the activated carbon comes in.

Activated Carbon Before HEPA Air Purifiers

Activated carbon has actually been around for quite a while, and though it sounds quite scientific, our ancestors have made good use of it for at least the last two centuries. Back then, they already knew of activated carbon’s extraordinary absorption qualities. In the early 1900’s, the stuff was produced and sold commercially in the form of a powder. At the time it was only used to remove color from sugar or taste or smell from water. Although we didn’t know it at the time, that was barely the tip of what this stuff is capable of. In World War I, the military discovered that they could use activated carbon in gas masks, filtering chemical agents from the air for the soldiers. The soldiers also used it for water purification, just like their ancestors. By this point, it was also available commercially as a granular form instead of just powder, which was when it began finding uses in even more situations.

What The Word “Activated” Means

Most people have a general idea of what carbon is – it’s a mineral. The most basic example would probably be charcoal. Activated carbon is what you get after heat is used on the carbon to drive all of the impurities out, leaving room for more to take their place. Think of it as a sponge, only instead of using pressure to extract the contents, we’re using heat. Once the activated carbon is full, it can actually be reactivated by re-heating, though this is considered by most to be both impractical and dangerous. So, in this case, activated basically means empty.

Are There Different Types Of Activated Carbon?

There are different types of activated carbon, and it’s often described in different ways. Generally, however, activated carbon will include a wide variety of amorphous carbon-based materials. These materials will have many holes, or a high degree of porosity, covering a relatively large surface area, giving the material great absorbent ability. These characteristics are why it works so extremely well in filtering both water and air.

Many people tell me how much they hate to have trouble breathing through their nose. While they really hate to have trouble during the day because it’s such a distraction, it’s the night times that are the most bothersome. It’s amazing how we can be so unaware of our nose until it doesn’t work right. Perhaps you have had these symptoms at some time too.

This problem of “the stuffy nose” is usually caused by either allergies or infection. In the case of allergies, this seems to be growing more and more in our society. People just seem to have more and more troublesome allergies that cause nasal congestion. The increase in the many treatments that the drug companies make for us is simply a reaction to a never ending need.

Allergies cause the nose to experience a lot more secretions, but although there is an increase in volume of secretions they aren’t normal. They tend to be thicker and more irritating. By this change in the secretions the breathing is affected- there simply isn’t as much room for the air to get by.

Chronic sinus infections are another cause of swelling of the nasal passages. Unlike with allergies, this kind of swelling can be from something going on in the sinus yet causes the adjacent nasal passages to swell. It is a less direct cause of swelling but it appears that infection still causes swelling in the nasal passages.

What if there was a easy “solution” to help both of these problems. Notice that I didn’t claim “cure both of these problems”. I’m describing something that is not a cure—but it is a help.

Several years ago I developed ways to treat nasal secretions; even though we can’t at this time show you how the treatment works– it does seem to help whether the problem is allergies or chronic infections.

I have not revealed all of the secrets of the nasal spray because it is patented. However I can say that it is the first nasal antioxidant available.

I decided not to sell this product but rather to make the recipe available for people to make at home. I did this because I was wanting to make a solution that was preservative free and the only way I could make that happen was if the patient made the solution at home. So you can make this solution any time you need it and at the same time you’re minimizing the exposure to chemicals such as preservatives. Preservatives can cause a lot of problem with the nose.
